Sarah has had so much fun designing and making this pretty quilt. It incorporates many of her favourite traditional quilt blocks mixed in with some blocks designed especially for this quilt. As with our previous Block of the Month Clubs, Sarah used a range of techniques including English paper piecing, machine piecing and pretty hand drawn applique blocks. Sarah cherry picked a pretty selection of fabrics for the quilt including lots of low volume prints and Bella solids from across a variety of manufacturers including Moda, Riley Blake, Art Gallery Fabrics etc for the backgrounds and the stars of the show are the lovely Tilda fabrics which are taken from a whole host of collections, including the up coming Lemon Tree collection.
What is a Block Of The Month (BOM) Club and how does it work?
A block of the month is a monthly parcel full of loveliness that you will receive directly through your letterbox. It will include all the fabrics and if required, English Paper Pieces for you to sew that months block, plus of course detailed instructions for how to piece the block will also be included. We'll also be sharing handy tips on the blog to help you along the way.
The 'Penny's Sampler' Block of the Month, is a 12 Month subscription running from January 2018 up to and including December 2018. Each month you will make a section of the quilt...this may vary from one larger block some months, to a selection of the smaller machine pieced blocks other months. At the end of the term you will have received enough pretty fabric and instructions to make your very own 'Penny's Sampler' Quilt Top.
How big is the finished Quilt?
The Quilt measures 58" x 72"
What techniques will be used?
The quilt combines a mix of Machine Piecing, English Paper Piecing and Applique*.
*Sarah used the Turn Through Interfacing method for my applique, but you could use Needle Turn or Raw Edge.... it is entirely up to you.
In addition to the detailed instruction provided each month, you can find various Tutorials on the Blog HERE to help you with the different techniques Sarah used whilst making the quilt and should Sarah feel necessary, she will add new ones to help you.
Will I receive exactly the same fabrics as Sarah used?
We will where possible send the same fabrics as Sarah used, however there may be fabric substitutions. Rest assured if this is the case, we will send something equally as scrumptious and the quilt will retain the feel and character of the original.
What other supplies will I need?
Threads...see below, Applique supplies depending on your chosen method, EPP supplies again depending upon your chosen method (but the papers will be supplied when needed), a 1/4" Bias Binding maker plus your usual patchwork and sewing related tools.
To complete your quilt, you will need wadding, backing fabric and binding fabric of your choice.
What threads did Sarah use?
Sarah used Aurifil 50wt thread for both the machine piecing and for the EPP and applique. A thread pack to co-ordinate will be available for purchase in the New Year....more information to follow.
Will there be a Facebook group for Club members?
Yes......... we have a dedicated Facebook Group for our Block of the Month Club members! It is a private forum only open to Pretty Fabrics and Trims Block of the Month club members, somewhere where you could share your progress month by month, ask for advice from fellow club members, to share helpful tips and to make quilty friends.
Can I purchase the pattern on its own?
No, not at this moment in time......Sorry!
How much does the Club cost?
The monthly Club cost including postage is:
UK Club Price ~ £19.95 (Via 1st Class Mail)
EU Club Price ~ £22.45 (Via Standard Airmail*)
International Club Price ~ £23.95 (Via Standard Airmail*)
*Should you wish to upgrade to Priority Mail for your parcel full of loveliness please do get in touch.
When and how will I make my payment?
The first months payment will be due on the 24th January 2018 and subsequent payments will be due on the 24th of each Month. Parcels full of loveliness will be posted within 2 working days of payments being safely received.
Payments will be made by a monthly subscription service via your Paypal account to us, for those of you already in our Flirty 30's Club or our other Block of the Month Clubs will be familiar with this. By setting up a Paypal subscription to us your monthly payments will automatically be debited from your Paypal account each month. Once it is in place you do not need to do anything, with the exception of cancelling the subscription at the end of the Block of the Month. Don't worry we will remind you and should you inadvertently forget, we will obviously refund any over-payment without hesitation!
We will contact Club members nearer the time to arrange this.
We are also more than happy for you to make your monthly payment to us from your Bank Account directly into our Bank Account, should prefer this method, simply get in touch once you have signed up and we will provide you will all the required information.
P.S. If you're wondering where the name for the quilt came from, when Sarah first showed her design to Penny, drawn out the traditional way with a pencil, ruler and graph paper .... Penny quickly said that she loved it and claimed it for herself...hence Penny's Sampler!
