Over the years I have designed and made lots of quilts, some big, some small, some simple, some more involved, some sewn entirely my machine and some sewn mostly by hand and I have LOVED all of them.

Sometimes though, whilst I want to enjoy some happy stitches, I don’t want to have to think too much and I just crave repetitive sewing that lets me slow down and get lost in the process. That’s exactly what the Perfect Pairs Sew-Along is all about.

This is a relaxed sew-along and the most important thing is that you enjoy LOTS of happy stitches. There is no pressure to keep up if life gets in the way, just simply sew at your own pace as and when you can.

I made my first Perfect Pairs quilt back in 2018, it was super pretty, light and airy with lots of low volume backgrounds and pretty 1930's reproduction fabrics, you can read more about that quilt on my Blog HERE.

For the Sew-Along, I’m making a square quilt with a 9-by-9 block layout, finished off with a border all around to frame it beautifully. The completed quilt will measure 55" x 55".

The aim is to make 9 applique heart blocks per month for 9 months. In the final month I will then join the blocks together and add the border fabric.

I will be using the Needle turn applique method to applique my hearts, but you can of course use an applique method of your choice. To help, there are video tutorials with our Beginner's Guide to Patchwork and Quilting for the Needle turn applique method, the Interfacing method and the Raw edge applique method.

I will be using a sewing machine to sew my blocks together.

My intention is to hand quilt in the months after the sew-along finishes.

On the 1st June 2026, I will add the instructions for the quilt to this page.

During the sew-along I will share ideas for the final layout based upon my chosen muted 'rainbow' colour scheme.

Plus, in month 1 I will also share an easy bonus project for my Petite Pin Cushion, perfect for using up some of the precious little scraps that you will inevitably find yourself with, that will also come in very handy to during the sew-along!

To join in, if you haven't done so previously, you MUST purchase the Perfect Pairs acrylic template, plus you will need to, gather your fabrics*, threads, needles and notions and get ready for some happy stitches! A detailed list is below.

*To make it even more simple and if you would like to make a quilt just like the one I am going to make, you can sign up for a monthly Perfect Pairs Sew-Along parcel full of loveliness, which will arrive through your door each month. Places will be limited. As a little happy thank you, also included in the Month 1 parcel will be the additional linen fabric, EPP Paper Pieces, buttons and printed instructions to make the Petite Pin Cushion. There's also an option to add on the Perfect Pairs Acrylic Template, a Thread Pack and a pack of Sarah's Favourite Needle Turn Applique Needles.

We will officially be starting the Sew-Along at the beginning of June, which is when you will start to sew your heart blocks. I will be working a month ahead of you, all be it at a nice and relaxing pace, so that for those of you who have signed up to receive a fabric pack will be able to see my monthly hearts! I'll be sharing my progress both here and also on Instagram.

If you are joining our fabric club it will be possible to pre-order a Perfect Pairs acrylic template, a thread pack and a pack of my favourite applique needles to be sent with your Month 1 parcel.

To make the quilt top, you will need the following supplies.

HEART TEMPLATE

To join in, you MUST purchase the Perfect Pairs acrylic template HERE

FABRIC

If you wish to make a scrappy quilt like mine, each month you will need:

• from each of three different Background fabrics ~ (3) 6 ½” squares

• from each of nine different fabrics for the Heart appliques ~ (1) 5" squares*

*if you are planning of fussy cutting the fabric for your hearts, you may need a larger square!

In the final month you will also need fabric for the border ~ 1 yard approx.

If you are using fabrics from your stash, you can of course you can use any colour combination and /or fewer fabrics and increase the fabric size for each piece accordingly.

THREADS

You will need threads to match your applique fabrics. I will be using Aurifil 80wt in the following colours and a thread pack is available to pre-order if you are joining our monthly fabric club:

• Red #2255

• Pink #2410

• Beige/Brown #2314

• Mustard #5022

• Green #2900

• Light Teal #5007

• Grey #2620

• Mauve #2510

• Muslin #2311

Please note: some of these colours are my favourites that I use time and time again a few of them have previously been used in past 'special' boxes, so, if you only need a little top up, we will be adding stock in the next few weeks so that you can top up if you have any gaps in your collection.

PINS &NEEDLES

I will be using Clover Applique Pins, available HERE and of course my Favourite Needles for Needle Turn Applique, THESE ONES!

ADDITIONAL NOTIONS

Sewing Machine, Scissors, Removable Fabric Marker Pen plus any of your favourite notions that I haven’t included.

This is a relaxed sew-along, there is no pressure to keep up, the most important thing is that you enjoy a little happiness in every stitch, when the time is right for you!!

The Sew-Along will officially start on the 1st June 2026, which is when I will add the Pattern Instructions TO THIS PAGE and also share how to make my Petite Pin Cushion.
