VOLUME 5

The Happy Stitches Journal Volume 5, is a 12 Month subscription club running from January 2027 up to and including December 2027.

Back for an third year....join us in 2027 to sew the fifth volume in our super popular series. Inspired by memories of 'Highdays and Holidays', Volume 5 celebrates special days out, such as going to the seaside, a village show, a hot air balloon festival, a rubber duck race or perhaps visiting a historic home or garden. Sarah has also included both folk and religious festivals and holidays celebrated across the world, some more familiar such as Valentines Day, May Pole dancing and Diwali, bit also lesser know celebrations such as Wassailing, an ancient custom celebrated traditionally on 12th night in cider producing regions of England, where songs are sung in the orchards to promote a healthy apple harvest later in the year. Each month, you will sew a page for your journal and these will include a lovely mix of techniques, including hand embroidery, English paper piecing and applique. Every other month, you will also add hand quilting which creates the lovely squishiness that makes the fabric book unique! It will be a keepsake of happy stitches, that we're sure will become a much loved family treasure.

INSIDE YOUR MONTHLY PARCEL

Each month you will receive a parcel full of loveliness directly through your letterbox.

This will include:

Detailed instructions.
Pre-printed cotton/linen mix fabric when it is a hand embroidery page.
All the fabrics required when it is an English Paper Pieced or Applique page.
Also if needed, applique templates, English Paper Piece pre-cut papers, buttons and pretty trims.
Plus each month you will receive the embroidery threads in the exact same colours used by Sarah.
Then, in addition, in February, April, June, August, October and December you will receive the wadding and Liberty Tana Lawn™ binding fabric a different one each month, to enable you to finish a 'double page' spread.
A spool of Aurifil 12wt is also provided in February for you to use for the hand quilting.
Finally, in month 12 you will receive an additional parcel to enable you to make the beautiful hand quilted cover.

By the end of year, you will have received everything you need to make your Happy Stitches Volume 5 except for your hand sewing thread and your favourite sewing notions!

Don't forget, in addition to the monthly instructions, there are also two FREE courses on our Schoolhouse Website to help you with all of Sarah's favourite patchwork techniques and hand embroidery stitches!

Some more useful information about Volume 5

How big is the finished Journal?

The book is approx 9" square and 2 1/2" thick.

What techniques will be used?

Volume 5 combines a mix of Hand Embroidery, Applique, English Paper Piecing and Hand Quilting. You will also need a Sewing Machine for the book construction, although should you prefer you can of course stitch the entire book by hand.

What other supplies will I need?

EPP Supplies: for example glue pen & glue refills if you wish to glue baste or thread if you plan on thread basting, however all the papers are supplied.
Piecing Thread: Sarah used Aurifil 50wt #2311 in her machine and for the EPP, she then switched to 80wt for the applique.
Tools: Hand sewing needles for the applique, EPP, Embroidery and Hand Quilting, an embroidery hoop and your usual patchwork and sewing related tools.

Will I receive exactly the same Liberty Tana Lawn™ fabrics as used in the sample?

We will where possible send the same fabrics as Sarah used, however as we have been running this volume for a number of years there will be fabric substitutions. Rest assured, Sarah will choose something equally as scrumptious and the journal will retain the feel and character of the original.

I have lots of embroidery threads and a fabric stash, can I purchase the pattern only?

Sorry, the Happy Stitches Journal is only available as a parcel full of loveliness through your letterbox each month. We do however have a growing collection of other PDF patterns and classes available on our Schoolhouse website, which you can visit HERE.

How much does it cost?

Please note that if you choose the one off payment option for our UK and Channel Island members we will continue to send your parcels monthly. For our International and USA members we will send your parcel every two months, with your first parcel being posted in February.
